Catalog > "Darwin's Beetle"
This beetle reportedly snipped Charles Darwin on his journey through South America, without much damage done [according to him]. What an impressive set of jaws! Larger than the rest of the body, with what looks like a double set below, this beetle looks like an escapee from another planet! A nice purplish sheen compliments this strange insect. Hard to find lately, and a huge male, 80+mm [near extreme size of range] Certainly one of the weirdest of all Stag Beetles! Mounted in dark brown shadowbox display.
