Displayed is a HUGE species of beetle, Megasoma acteon, in a black fluted shadowbox with parchment backing. This specimen measures in at 100 mm [body only!] which is over 4 inches! This guys legspan is well over 6 inches! Said to be the widest beetle in the world, and tied as the heaviest with the Goliath beetle from Africa. The Larvae grub IS on record to be the heaviest of all insect species, and lives in decaying logs in the tropical rainforests of Brazil, Peru, and Ecuador. This is a VERY impressive beetle in a handsome display!
